As I write this, it is raining. It actually has been for the past 3 hours, accompanied by much thunder and lightning. And so I’m going to share my thoughts and ramblings about rain 🙂 At the beginning of this week, my teacher and I were discussing weather, as that was the topic for the day. She told me that September usually has a lot of rain and as if on cue at start of September, it came, praise God! It has been raining in the afternoons and for a good part of each night. I pray it continues.
Honduras has been in its rainy season for a couple of months but has hardly had any rain at all. This has made it difficult for farmers and ranchers here to keep their crops and livestock alive. Water has to be rationed, in a way. For example, the valves are opened for a certain amount of time every 3-4 days and each household’s tank can then be filled until they close the valves. When you run out of water, you’re out until they open it up again. So, the fact that it is raining a lot now is wonderful!
In Isaiah, the Lord compares His Word to rain:
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth, and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11
Like rain gives life, the Word gives Life. As rain changes a barren brown land to luscious green fields, so does the Word change dirty stained clothes to pure, new, white robes. As rain causes growth, so does the Word give direction for becoming more like Christ. The Word has purpose, it has a plan.
How amazing, knowing He promises this. When we are simply obedient to being vessels through which His Word can go forth, we can trust that God has a plan. Don’t be discouraged when it seems like you can’t get through to someone. Though we may or may not see it, God already has it laid out to accomplish His will.
Have a great rest of the weekend!
